What to Expect
Stop at: Rockwood Park
At 2,200 acres (890 hectares), with ten lakes and 55 trails and footpaths, Rockwood Park is a Saint John destination unto itself. For our purposes (when circumstances allow), the park serves as our start/finish location, and , the tour finishes with a scenic ride along the park road, learning about its history and revel in its beauty.
Stop at: Saint John
Learn about some of the businesses and industries that have shaped Canada's oldest incorporated city as we ride our hybrid bikes through the rolling hills of Saint John.
Stop at: Fort Howe National Historic Site of Canada
Constructed in 1777 by the British and located on a towering rock offering unmatched views of both the harbour and river, Fort Howe and its associated garrison provided protection to the settlements from American Privateers and invasion through the end of the War of 1812.
Stop at: Reversing Falls Rapids
Created by the interaction of the Bay of Fundy and the Saint John River, this attraction has 3 very distinct stages depending on when you arrive. At low tide the river empties into the bay causing a series of rapids and whirlpools. As tides rise they slow the river current for a brief period called slack tide. The Bay's tides continue to rise, gradually reversing the flow of the river; rapids form again, peaking at high tide. A 8.5-metre (28-foot) tide cycle is roughly 12.5 hours. Keep an eye open for harbour seals and birds playing and feeding in the currents, or perhaps even the slightly more rare but equally impressive group of whitewater kayakers who frequent this location, for which Saint Joh has been ranked one of the top urban whitewater destinations in the world.
Stop at: Moosehead Small Batch
A brewing story as old as Canada itself. Founded in 1867 by matriarch Susannah Oland, Moosehead has been a staple of life in Saint John and Atlantic Canada for over 150 years. In 2018 in our Small Batch Brewery and Taproom was opened and became their home for innovation. Join us for a 16oz beverage (included in the price of the tour) and share in the story of this Saint John icon!
Stop at: Carleton Martello Tower
Carleton Martello Tower in Saint John, New Brunswick, is one of the nine surviving Martello Towers in Canada. The tower dates from the War of 1812 and played a significant role in conflicts until the Second World War. The site now features a restored powder magazine, a restored barracks room, and exhibits in the tower and in the visitor centre. The tower's roof offers a view of the city of Saint John and its harbour. Carleton Martello Tower is one of the oldest buildings in the city and has been designated as a National Historic Site of Canada since 1930. It has been open to the public since 1963.
Stop at: Harbour Passage
A series of interconnected walking and biking trails, lookouts and heritage sites that connects the north and west sides of the city to the uptown. Interpretive structures and panels offer a unique way to interpret our city’s rich, layered heritage and our extraordinary natural environment. Witness the ebb and flow of some of the Highest Tides in the World, enjoying spectacular views of Saint John Harbour's working port. If you're lucky you may even catch the occasional harbour seal playing in the tidal currents or relaixng on the rocks.
Stop at: Place Fort LaTour
Located just inside the Saint John Harbour along what is now Harbour Passage, Place Fort La Tour has long been a strategic area for gathering, trade, celebration, and sustenance. It's history of ceremonial, commercial, and industrial uses date back nearly 6000 years.
