Stop at: Stop 9
During the tour, you’ll pause near the Lachine Rapids, one of the largest and most powerful rapids in North America. This stretch of the St. Lawrence River has shaped Montréal’s history for centuries. It was a vital passageway for First Nations long before European arrival, and later for great French explorers — sailing these same waters once navigated by Samuel de Champlain. Today, the rapids are also a rich natural habitat. Keep an eye out for seabirds, herons, cormorants, and birds of prey that hunt along the river, as well as fish species drawn to the fast-moving currents. With dramatic scenery, deep history, and thriving wildlife, this stop offers a rare and memorable perspective on Montréal’s river heritage.
