What to Expect
Stop at: Grand Pre National Historic Site
Grand-Pré is a powerful monument that unites the Acadian people. Visitors to the site will uncover the tale of Le Grand Dérangement: a tragic event in Acadian history that has shaped the vibrant culture of modern-day Acadians across the globe through its quiet but powerful renaissance. The site commemorates the Grand Pré area as a centre of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755 and the Deportation of the Acadians, which began in 1755 and continued until 1762. For many Acadians throughout the world, the site remains the heart of their ancestral homeland and the symbol of the ties that unite them to this day..**There is a fee to visit Museum but no fee to see Church and he legendary statue of Evangeline (heroine of the Longfellow poem) and the Memorial Church**
Stop at: Old Post Road
From the View Park, on Old Post Road, you gaze over the 1,300-hectares of farm-fields, marshes and dykelands that comprise the Landscape of Grand-Pré. Discover the deep human story within this land. A vast panorama gives life to the efforts of industrious Acadians, who, in the 1680s, overcame geographic challenges and the world’s highest tides to foster thriving settlements. Their ingenious system of dykes remained a technological zenith for hundreds of years—expanded and maintained by English, Scottish and Dutch settlers until the mid-20th century—and combined with a tumultuous regional history, led to the area’s designation as Canada’s 16th UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also rich in Mi’kmaw tradition, dramatic Cape Blomidon—which frames the dykelands—is said to harbour the spirit of the mythical watchman Kluscap, another facet of this culturally and naturally diverse landscape.
Stop at: Blomidon Look-Off
Blomidon Look-Off is on top of the North Mountain in the Fundy Shore and Annapolis Valley region. It is a small roadside stop with a beautiful panoramic view of the Annapolis Valley and the Minas Basin. On a clear day, you can see five counties and maybe a few Bald Eagles from the look-off.
Stop at: Hall's Harbour
Hall's Harbour Lobster Pound is a working lobster pound in the quaint seaside village of Hall's Harbour in the Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley region...Great spot to enjoy some Fresh Nova Scotia Seafood.. Hall's Harbour is an authentic fishing village dating back to 1779, when Captain Hall and his privateers used this natural harbour as a base. Take a walk along the harbourfront boardwalk and explore the Lobster Pound’s buildings which date back to the 1820s; interpretive panels provide you with a history of the buildings and area. Enjoy the excellent views of the world famous Bay of Fundy tides along the way! There is waterfront restaurant for a delectable seaside meal of lobster! Additional meal options are available...**Meal Not Included** .
