You don't need climbing experience to try this bucket list adventure. On this full day excursion, our friendly and experienced guides will take you into the Yukon backcountry for an unforgettable day of waterfall ice climbing. This tour is perfect for both beginners and seasoned climbers. We provide all the gear needed to climb the ice and will coach you in essential ice climbing techniques. While ascending the frozen waterfall, take in the stunning winter landscape and capture memories of your epic day in the Yukon wilderness. After conquering the ice, rest and relax around a campfire with snacks and hot drinks. We hike back down the trail the way we came, reminiscing about our adventure and honing our stories on the drive home. This unique experience is ideal for groups of friends or adventurous couples looking to challenge themselves.

What to Expect

Shared tour (max 9)
6 hrs duration
Mount Sima

The waterfall ice climb is in the backcountry outside of Whitehorse. We start the day by meeting at the Mt Sima Ski Hill rental shop where you will select your gear for the day.

Once we are packed and ready, the drive to the trailhead is approximately one hour.

From the trailhead we have a 40 minute hike on a snowy trail. Be prepared to carry a heavy pack containing ice axes, crampons, and your food and water for the day.

Once we reach our destination, we rope up and ascend a series of steps to reach the top of the waterfall! Your guide will assist you in tying into the rope and learning some basic ice climbing techniques.

You set the pace, and throughout the day there are plenty of opportunities for snacks, hot drinks, and photos. When we are satisfied with our waterfall adventure experience, we walk down the trail beside the waterfall (no need to rappel) and reminisce on our day as we return to the vehicle.

The climbing portion takes 3-4 hours. With gearing up, driving, and periodic rests, this is a full day tour.

No climbing experience is necessary, but it will help to have a moderate fitness level and be comfortable hiking on a snowy trail.
