What to Expect
Stop at: Peyto Lake
Peyto Lake is a stunning, wolf-shaped, glacier-fed lake in Banff National Park known for its vibrant, milky turquoise color, caused by sunlight reflecting off suspended rock flour (glacial silt). Located along the Icefields Parkway at 1,860m elevation, it is best visited from June to September for its intense, almost artificial-looking color.
Stop at: Bow Lake
The water displays a bright turquoise color due to rock flour (glacial sediment). The landscape includes dramatic views of the Bow Glacier Falls, Crowfoot Mountain, and Bow Peak.
Stop at: Lake Louise
The lake's distinct blue-green color is created by sunlight reflecting off "rock flour" (mineral dust) suspended in meltwater from the surrounding Victoria Glacier.
Stop at: Moraine Lake
a world-renowned, glacier-fed lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, famous for its intense, vivid turquoise color caused by suspended rock flour.
