What to Expect
Stop at: Emerald Lake
Tucked away just 20 to 30 minutes west of Lake Louise, Emerald Lake is the crowning jewel of Yoho National Park in British Columbia. Discovered in 1882 by explorer Tom Wilson, this iconic sanctuary is celebrated worldwide for its breathtaking, brilliant green waters. Despite its secluded feel, it remains easily accessible via a short drive off the Trans-Canada Highway. Emerald Lake Lodge – A historic 1902 Canadian Pacific Railway retreat. This 4-star resort features 85 rooms across 24 chalet-style cabins on a secluded 13-acre peninsula. Unplug completely with zero cell service or in-room TVs, and immerse yourself in Yoho National Park.
Stop at: Natural Bridge
A natural bridge is a distinct geological feature where a solid rock formation spans an open space, creating a natural arch. How Natural Bridges Form Unlike sea arches or wind-sculpted arches, true natural bridges are defined by the action of moving water Water Erosion: A flowing river or stream slowly carves a path through a bedrock wall. Perforation: Over millennia, water finds a weak point or fracture in the rock, breaking through to create a small hole. Enlargement: The stream continuously flows through this opening, widening it via physical friction and chemical weathering. The Result: The water eventually abandons its old, looping path to flow directly under the newly formed rock bridge.
Stop at: Moraine Lake
Moraine Lake is an iconic, glacially fed alpine lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, situated in the spectacular Valley of the Ten Peaks at an elevation of 1,884 metres (6,181 feet). Known for its brilliant, surreal azure-blue water framed by a massive amphitheatre of stone, it is widely considered one of the most beautiful and photographed landscapes in North America. Key Sights & Viewpoints The Rockpile: A short, 5-minute walk up a rock mound for the classic, postcard-perfect view of the lake. The Shoreline Trail: A flat, easy 1.5-kilometre walking path that follows the water's edge into the forest. The Ten Peaks: A towering semicircle of 10 massive mountain peaks framing the entire lake basin. Activities & Experiences Canoe Rentals: Rent iconic red canoes directly from the Moraine Lake Lodge dock to paddle across the azure water. Moraine Lake Lodge: A rustic, luxury lodge featuring a gift shop, a cafe, and upscale dining.
Stop at: Lake Louise
Lake Louise is a world-famous alpine lake located in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, widely celebrated as the "Jewel of the Canadian Rockies". It sits at a high elevation of 1,731 metres (5,680 feet) and is framed by steep mountain peaks, thick spruce forests, and the massive Victoria Glacier looming directly behind it. In 1884, the Geographic Board of Canada officially changed the name to Lake Louise. It was named in honour of Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and the wife of the Marquess of Lorne, who was serving as Canada’s Governor General. Long before European settlers arrived, the lake and the surrounding Bow Valley were home to Indigenous peoples, primarily the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda). The Stoney Nakoda called the water Horâ Juthin Îmne (or Ho-run-num-nay), which translates to "Lake of the Little Fishes". This named referenced the small fish that survived in the frigid, nutrient-poor glacial waters.
Stop at: Johnston Canyon
Johnston Canyon offers an immersive, sensory-rich experience that looks almost too perfect to be natural. The trail’s main highlights include the Lower Falls, Upper Falls, the Ink Pots, and a series of seven distinct waterfalls. However, the true highlight is the network of cliff-hanging catwalks. Cantilevered directly over the canyon walls, these walkways offer a thrilling, front-row seat to the rushing waters below.
